The Minocentaurion

Do I love this image? What do you think?!
Ok. It’s not really one image, but five composited together. There’s the Minocentaurion himself in all his glory, three lots of horses then the background, all rendered at 1024×1024 resolution as .png files then composited together and lightly sprinkled with Photoshop fairydust. Total time to create: about 2 and a half hours. Me, I think it’s my best yet.

Damn you, centaur addiction. Every now and then I have this strange urge to render a centaur. There’s nothing wrong with that in itself – hey I like centaurs as much as the next guy (or gal) – but the problem is it doesn’t stop with just one, oh no.
Maybe I should call Centaurs Anonymous.
It’ll be werewolves next.

Gunsmoke and Goblins

If there’s one this I love, it’s people. Especially people who take the simple (like Microlite20), and make it into something wonderful. Gunsmoke & Goblins (tiny pdf download) by bd_art, is just such a flavour of wonderful.
Here’s the one-line pitch: a 5 page Microlite RPG of cowboys & injuns D&D style (and d20 compatible), all wrapped up in hilarious Wild West dialog.
Pure, free, brilliance.
And it inspired me to make this…………

The Centaurfold

One for the laydees! I’m on a serious Werewolf and Centaur bint right now. I think it’s a subconscious reaction to Wizards’ saying they they thought anthropomorphic races were silly and childish. This’ll teach ‘em! (Yeh, I know centaurs aren’t strictly anthropomorphic, but still).
Thankfully, Microlite20 has Anthro Races by the bucketload, all ready and primed to drop into your Fantasy, Modern, Sci-fi, Spy or Western genre. Oh yeh!

Incidentally, this took a grand total of 10 minutes to set up, and less than that to render. Start to finish in under 20. Damn, I love DAZ Studio! Did I mention it’s free?
A Challenge by Moonlight

The hot news around the RPG blogosphere today is that Wizards’ have released more information about D&D Insider. Rather than repeat myself, I’ll re-post what I posted in the comments at Critical Hits. Right after this spiffing image by yours truly.

Don’t you just love centaurs? I do!
Price-wise, I think they’ve got things spot on for Dungeon and Dragon mags alone, provided the quality remains (or exceeds) the level they’re putting out today. I’ve been very impressed with what they’ve delivered over the last few months in that respect.
The bonus tools are “meh”. Asmor is doing it better, quicker and freer already. The Rules Compendium – honestly, trying to tell us that a database lookup table with a crippled search is “the next big thing” just doesn’t cut it nowadays. Give me their database and ruby-on-rails and I could reproduce it within 15 minutes. Give me an hour and I could make it a darned site better. It’s very, very poor.
And as for the rest of the goodies – I’m very much on the “wait and see but not holding my breath” side of the fence. I certainly wouldn’t consider a subscription based on something I haven’t seen with my own eyes. IF everything works as promised (and that’s a big if), then $60 a year for everything including Dungeon and Dragon subs will be a bargain.
As it stands, I think they’re promising just a little too much, have failed to deliver anything close to what they’ve said. And that’s going to cause a lot of people to back off.
