Dragon Warriors Week
Every now and then I blog about one of the greatest unsung role-playing games of all time – Dragon Warriors. This is the RPG that broke all the rules; it was trade-paperback in size, and was playable from the get-go as the first book in the series contained character generation, combat, monsters, GM advice and even a full scenario. In a paperback about half the thickness of your average fantasy novel. For £1.75. Hey, it was 1985!
I’m going to fly in the face of 4e and declare that starting tomorrow, it’s Dragon Warriors Week, running Friday to Friday. Y’know, like weeks normally….. uhhhh……. don’t. Each day I’ll post a snippet from the world’s greatest unsung RPG, and I swear that by the end you’ll be burning your Fourth Edition D&D manuals and dancing round the flames.
Thanks to the miracle of the bits of copper wire between all the computers, Dragon Warriors is available for free download in it’s entirety, right now.

I have a fondness for Dragon Warriors, nice game play for its time, interesting setting, it’s not gonna make me burn my 4e books, a game which to my surprise I really like, but I do dig Dragon Warriors.

I haven’t yet had a chance to play Dragon Warriors, although I had a few of the books many years ago (the setting does indeed seem wonderful). I might see about running it in my regular group in the near future.
I have been heartened by the news that Magnum Opus Press is producing a new edition. They did a great job with The Extraordinary Adventures of Baron Munchausen (I burned through my PDF with great enjoyment and am now early awaiting by hardcover edition), so I’ve very hopeful about their handling of Dragon Warriors.

Great, thanks for these posts, I too loved DW a long time ago. My Mum was v. suspicious of boxed game sets (polluting the mind, Mazes and Monsters, etc), also I had limited pocket money. So I managed to buy the DW books bit by bit and pretend they were just stories.
I will be buying the new edition next time I am in the UK (I currently live outside Amazon’s delivery zone).
