Welcome to Holldovia

“Ha! Welcome to Holldovia, my friends. Come, come, sit by the fire. I am Archduke Hollis and this is my humble abode. It’s good, ya? Of course, you southerners prefer to build with stone but I like good, solid wood. I want a hall that breathes with me, not some cold thing, like a fish.”
“As we are to trade, I will tell you all you need to know about my realm. There are three provinces. My capital is here Bradnovich. Some say it’s a large town, though I call it a city, and who’s to argue with an Archduke, eh? It’s in the heart of this mighty forest, and logging is our blood. We all all strong men here – even the women. Ha! Head out of the forest on the old trail and you’ll soon be in Cheyznia. That’s hilly country, good for quarrying. To the South there is marshland and the small hamlet of Umbrovnia. I don’t go there though, not since the……accident.”
“Now, tell me of your realm. you call it an Empire, eh? Don’t let the One Church hear you say that! Oh, don’t worry, I won’t tell, no no no. Here. Drink. Let’s trade.”

Translation: I’ve spent a few hours creating a Realms Generator for the new RPG campaign I’m working on, and it’s pretty much ready. I’ve tried to turn the maths-heavy rules of Fields of Blood into something more manageable. The goal is to create something that describes you (the ruler of the Realm), the Realm itself and the Provinces that make it up.

Each Realm will have a sheet like the one below. I’ve set a maximum of five Provinces per Realm, though it’s ok to have just one if you wish. The Population Center is the size of the largest occupied area in the Province. If it’s a Large City it means there’s hundreds of smaller towns, villages and hamlets too, but it’s the biggest site that counts. The smaller sites are just satellite to that one. If it’s only got a Halmet though, that’s likely to be the only place for miles around. A province is roughly 24 miles in diameter.

The important numbers are right at the bottom. That’s the amount of resources (each point is roughly 100gp) you as Regent and the Realm has to play with each season to build, fortify, trade, mass an army and anything else you might think of. A season lasts 13 weeks. Some things you have to pay for – like a private army – and other things the Realm pays for – such as a Marketplace. Most things, either can pay for.

Anyhow, I’m sure I’ll be improving the Generator over the next few days but if you want a sneak peek, here it is. Enjoy.

Here’s a sample sheet. Archduke Hollis is either a buffoon or a shrewd plotter pretending to be a buffoon. Either way, he’s not to be trusted.

Hail, Archduke Hollis of Holldovia!

Your civilization is Cultured. Your rulership style is Warlord. Taxation is Moderate.
