Live 8 has been on the car radio while were out, on the digital radio when we got back, and we’ve just turned that on and the TV on in time to catch the fabulous Madonna singing Like a Prayer.
Yes, it’s Live Aid all over again, and it is amazing.
I agree with Roland Rivron’s sentiments that perhaps the world would be a better place if we just stopped selling them guns. But hey, the music is fantastic, the sentiments are genuine and a life saved is still a life saved.
This changes nothing though. The politicians who might just cancel the third world debt over the coming weeks are still the politicians who will demand trade favours and lock-ins in return. This isn’t about altruism, but business and power.
And some of the business that goes on – form guns to drugs to tobacco to medicines unavailable because of patents and evil laws – is sickenning.
